Cheap Auto Insurance That Protects Your Kids

kids in car

Auto insurance is more expensive than most people would like, but many continue paying the same rates year after year without ever taking action to get a lower premium. Here are a few tips to help you lower your insurance premium and hopefully get the cheap car insurance you always wanted.

Shop Around

One of the best ways to obtain cheap car insurance is to do your research before agreeing to work with one company. Just like anything else, prices for insurance fluctuates by the company that you deal with. That means by simply calling several offices, or looking around on the Internet you should be able to find a range of pricing options and some much more affordable policies than what you might have ended up with by going with the first option.

Know Your Insurance Requirements

Insurance requirements vary depending on which state you live in, and it’s important to understand what your local requirements are before you pick a policy. You could be spending more than you have to obtaining coverage well above the rate that you truly need to be compliant. Take the time to learn your state’s requirements and you can pick a policy that makes sense for you.

North Carolina Insurance Requirements

As a resident of Raleigh North Carolina, there are three major liability coverage limits that you have to be aware of. As long as you meet at least these limits your vehicle is legally covered as much as it has to be. You need $30,000 for bodily injury liability per person in an accident. You also need at least $60,000 in liability for bodily injury as a total amount for each accident. Finally you have to have an additional $25,000 in coverage for property damage liability for every accident. As long as you meet these requirements you don’t have to purchase a policy in excess of this, but you could end up having to cover the bill if you get into a very serious accident at some point with a policy right on the legal borderline. A great Raleigh car insurance company we found to help us get through our tight budgeting needs is Insurance Doctor.

Virginia Insurance Requirements

In Virginia you have three liability coverage amounts that have to be included in your policy for it to be legal. The first is $25,000 toward bodily injury or death of a single person involved in the accident. An amount of $50,000 must be available for liability purposes to cover two or more individuals involved in the accident. You also need $20,000 in liability coverage for property damage to pay out to cover any damage you do to someone’s vehicle or personal property. If you find yourself needing car insurance in Virginia then check out Insurance Doctor of Richmond VA.

Raise Your Deductibles

The deductible is the amount of money that you have to pay during an accident before your auto insurance kicks in. Raising this amount means that you have to have more money available to cover an accident, but it will lower your insurance premium considerably. Consider bumping your deductible up from low levels like $100 or $250 all the way up to $1000. You could reduce your policy cost by as much as 25 to 40 percent by making this change.

Don’t Worry About Collision on Older Vehicles

If you drive around an older vehicle without an auto loan that you aren’t that worried about replacing in the event of an accident you can obtain cheap car insurance by getting rid of collision coverage entirely, or lowering your level of coverage. It’s important to realize that if you do this you won’t get any money to help you pay for your vehicle during an accident, you will have to cover the costs for repairs or replacement out of your own personal money.

Look for Low Mileage or Group Discounts

Many infrequent drivers pay much more for insurance than they have to. Always ask about any low-mileage discounts available when negotiating your auto insurance policy. If you drive your vehicle less than 5,000 miles a year you could qualify for such a discount and get lower rates on your policy. Even if you aren’t a low-mileage driver you might be able to save by grouping several insurance policies under the same provider. If you have home, life or additional vehicle insurance policies look into going with the same company for your other vehicles as well. You’ll typically receive a group discount that lowers the rate of all your policies and can result in major savings.

By following these tips you should be able to lower your insurance premium by at least a bit. While most of this advice is pretty straightforward, hopefully a few of these tips give you something to think about and help you save some money.

2016 Trends: How to Personalize Your Kids Windows with Home Window Tint

happy children

Today we are here to present one of the most popular and fun home projects that will put a smile on your kid’s face. We have incorporated decorative home window tint to create fun and personalized images for children’s picture windows. In my Colorado Springs home, we cut a stained glass Disney themed window film for my 3-year-old daughter and a stained glass Marvel Comics theme for 9-year-old son. These will be projects that you as an adult would have to physically dominate because of the use of sharp Exacto knives and delicate craftsmanship when cutting out segments. This project is also a great idea for windows in your daycare or child care facility.

Choosing the Proper Stencils or Templates

There are many ways you can go about acquiring the stencil you want and if you’re crafty enough you can even create your own in Adobe illustrator or modify an image you find on the internet. The first thing I would do would be to go to google and search something like “Stained Glass Template”, “Free Marvel Stencils”, or “Marvel Comics Stained Glass Ideas”. When the results page pops up , go to images and here you can download anything that appeals to you. As long as you’re not using these images to profit then you’re ok, so don’t try to sell your finished project.

One technique that I like to do is go to eBay and search stained glass for sale with the theme I had in mind. Here you will usually find great quality pictures of very intricate stained glass art. You can then save this image and upload into Adobe Photo shop. Your next step would be to isolate out the colors of the lead frame and make all the other fragments of stained glass white.  Click save and you have yourself the perfect stencil that you can enlarge to fit your dimensions.

You can even upload these images to your computer then hook up a projector screen so the stencil is projected onto the wall. From here you can draw out a stencil that you can later use for when you are ready to start cutting the pieces of window tint to size.

Cutting the Window Film To Size

When the stencil is finally made and enlarged to fit the dimensions of the window then you can start to begin the scoring of the window film. But before you can start cutting, you need to make sure you have all the proper colors and shades needed for the project. On all the white spaces of the window tint template, I like to insert numbers. Each number correlates with the appropriate color making no room for mistakes down the road. To create the stained glass look, you would take a darkly tinted window film to represent the lead frame and cut it to your stencil  specifications.

After many attempts, I found that the easiest way to complete this project is to use the projector method. Just apply the dark tinted film to the window and project the image onto the window. You can then score out all the fragment pieces with and Exacto knife which leaves you with the lead frame appearance. That right there is a really cool effect and can cast some pretty cool shadows. I like this idea, especially during Christmas or Halloween. However, if you are incorporating color make sure to save the pieces you just cut out and use them as you template. Just make sure not to lose track of the numbers to line up correctly with the colors.

Window Film Application Tips

I started writing this article under the assumption that many may be familiar with how to properly apply window tint but for those who aren’t familiar here are a few pointers:

  1. First take a razor blade and run it across the window to remove any hardened dirt or paint that may have gotten stuck to the surface.
  2. Next make sure to clean the surface with a mild soap to ensure that the side you will be applying the home window film to is thoroughly clean.
  3. Your next step is to dry the glass panes off with a microfiber towel to and make sure that no fibers are left behind. This should be done right before you are ready to apply the window film.
  4. Re-moisten the surface with water and carefully apply the custom cut home window tint
  5. Let dry for a few hours to set

When the window film is set and dry you can then begin scoring out your frame work then inserting in the colored pieces.

I hope you and your family enjoy this as much as my family did!

How To Choose The Right Day Care Center For Your Child

If you are in the process of selecting a suitable daycare center for your child, you need to be observant and ready to ask lots of questions. Begin searching roughly half a year before you will require childcare (good centers do not have free places for long). Take the following things into account, before making your final decision, to find a center that ticks the appropriate boxes.

The majority of parents ask their friends and relatives for day care center recommendations. Undoubtedly, this is a good place to start. Also, you could scout out some options in your local area, because convenience is certainly helpful. You should only consider centers that are fully licensed, and that have a clean, safe environment.

The child care center you choose needs to be versatile, and allow you to drop off and collect your child at suitable times, for example. Furthermore, it should have clear rules governing things like emergency procedures and hours of operation. The center ought to have a written document it can supply, detailing every policy. This way, you can be confident that it is professionally run and safe for your child.

Carers should supervise your child constantly, even when he or she is asleep. Find out what the carer to child ratios are at the center. Preferably, there ought to one carer for every three infants, one carer for every seven preschoolers, and one carer for every five older toddlers. Ratios like these mean that your child will receive the personal care that is vital for his or her emotional and social development.

Reputable daycare centers adhere to structured timetables, which feature lots of exercise, study time (such as story reading for individuals and groups), group activities, individual programs, snacks, meals and play time. Videos and television should not feature prominently in the daycare center’s schedule. If videos do feature at all, check that they are suitable and preferably, informative as well – teaching children about different cultures, animals and plants etc. A skillfully put together curriculum kickstarts your child’s progress, and makes his or her time at the center more enjoyable.

The teachers need to be intelligent and creative, and have the appropriate qualifications. Always ask whether the administrators and teachers have degrees in early childhood education, and find out what type of development training they receive periodically. The staff of a good daycare center should receive training every year, to keep their skills relevant.

Observe how the members of staff engage with the infants. Carers should be upbeat, alert and responsible. The staff should share your opinions about discipline, rest, meals and similar care related issues. Ask what snacks and meals are served, and inform the staff about anything your child is allergic to. Good carers will question you about the health of your child to ensure they are prepared.

Inquire about the center’s policy regarding health and safety. Good centers will readily reveal their policies governing everything from hand washing to immunizations, coping with poorly children and changing nappies. Make sure that all adults in the center have had criminal background checks, and are qualified in first aid and CPR. There ought to be procedures to follow, in the event of injured or lost children, and frequently rehearsed emergency drills for floods, fires and other similar events.

Is Your Child Ready For Kindergarten?

Most children entering kindergarten are 5 years old, or are just about to turn 5. But should age be the only criterion for starting your child in a kindergarten program? The answer is more complicated than you may think.

Many parents choose to enroll their child in kindergarten based on their birthdate. However, enrollment cutoff dates and birthdays that fall later in the year can mean a child isn’t as ready or mature enough to be as successful as other students in their class. In situations where a child’s birthdate falls close to the enrollment cutoff, parents are increasingly opting to hold their child back a year from beginning school. This practice is known as “redshirting” – like in college sports, when an athlete is benched for a year in order to practice and improve. Many parents feel as though their child isn’t socially, emotionally, or cognitively ready to start kindergarten, and an extra year may give them their child more time to develop. This makes sense, as children develop at varying rates, and a parent may worry that their child might experience behavioral or social issues if they’re not mature enough to interact with others in an academic setting. But research also shows that younger children and less mature children actually benefit from engaging with more mature children.

Particularly in upper middle class circles, where pressure is placed on academic success at increasingly earlier ages, redshirting is also becoming a trend in order to give children a “leg up” over other students – a competitive edge. However, holding children back from school can deprive them of beneficial social interaction, and research has shown that children who have been held back often experience social and behavioral problems in adolescence. At the same time, starting children off too early in kindergarten can also produce behavioral issues. Children who don’t quite meet the cutoff age at time of enrollment might benefit from an additional year in preschool or day care. For example, Creative World School offers day care in Kansas City, emphasizing early childhood development and school readiness for children who are not quite prepared to enter kindergarten.

The pros and cons of starting kindergarten based on age, maturity level, or academic potential are mixed. The best thing for parents to do is simply to use their best judgment and weigh the options for their child to ensure that their child can be successful in school – both academically and socially.
